Ian Hanover, L.Ac.
Ian brings a compassionate, thoughtful approach to healing, shaped by more than a decade of immersive study, global training, and hands-on clinical practice. His work blends time-honored traditions with modern understanding, creating care that is both deeply effective and genuinely human.
After living in India for ten years studying and teaching yoga, breathwork, meditation, and Ayurveda, Ian continued his training across Asia and the United States. He earned his diploma in Ayurvedic Panchakarma, completed advanced certifications in Traditional Thai Massage, and graduated from Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine, where he trained extensively in acupuncture and herbal medicine. He is Licensed in South Carolina and holds Diplomate of Acupuncture, awarded by the national certifying body, the National Certification Board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM).
In addition to his classical training, Ian has pursued advanced studies in orthopedics and functional anatomy—deepening his understanding of musculoskeletal mechanics, injury patterns, postural alignment, and pain physiology. This specialized education allows him to treat complex pain conditions, sports injuries, chronic orthopedic issues, and movement-related dysfunction with precision and insight.
Ian specializes in pain management, chronic disease, digestive health, immune support, inflammation, stress reduction, and mental-emotional wellbeing. Care may integrate acupuncture, herbal medicine, manual therapy, movement principles, and lifestyle guidance to address root causes and support long-term healing.
His clinical approach includes acupuncture, orthopedic and manual techniques, cupping, wet cupping (hijama), gua sha, scar therapy, and micro-bleeding techniques—carefully selected and tailored to each person’s needs.
Practice Philosophy
Care begins with the art of listening. We’ll look at the full picture—symptoms, history, lifestyle, and what’s changed over time—so treatment supports meaningful, sustainable improvement.
My role is to help unblock stagnation and restore the natural movement within your body. By encouraging vital movement to return, your body’s innate capacity to heal and regenerate will naturally restore the internal rhythms necessary for vitality. Ultimately, healing is a natural ability you already possess. You possess the power to return to your healthiest self; I am simply here to assist that process.
What to Expect
Your first visit begins with a thorough conversation about your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and goals. This helps Ian understand not only your symptoms, but the broader patterns contributing to them. From there, he performs a gentle assessment that may include pulse and tongue diagnosis, posture and movement observation, and palpation of relevant areas.
Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and may include acupuncture, manual techniques, cupping, herbal recommendations, or other supportive therapies as appropriate. Most sessions are deeply relaxing, and many patients notice changes in pain, sleep, digestion, or stress levels within the first few visits.
Follow-up visits build on your initial response to care and are adjusted as your body changes. Visit frequency and treatment duration vary depending on your condition, goals, and how your system responds, but care is always oriented toward meaningful, sustainable improvement rather than indefinite treatment.
Eating a light meal beforehand, staying hydrated, and wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing are usually sufficient preparation.
